A Few of My Favorites

Well, Nick and I are home from our extended trip across the ocean. It was absolutely wonderful. I won’t even attempt to try to summarize it, for it would be impossible to capture the beautiful sights we saw and incredible things we experienced. However, I thought I’d share some of my own personal highlights… some of the little moments that made it most special to me:

  1. Taking that first sip of German beer and washing away all 20 hours of travel required to get to it.
  2. Pressing my face up against the window of a train for nearly four hours straight, simply because I didn’t want to miss a moment’s view of the perfectly autumn German countryside, complete with the occasional castle and quaint little villages along the river.
  3. Arriving in Prague at night and deciding to take a little stroll with my husband, then, before walking 30 meters from our hotel, realizing that we were ON the Charles Bridge and looking at what I believe has been the most beautiful sight of my life.
  4. Waking up each morning in Prague and climbing into the wonderfully giant bathtub in our quaint, cute, perfectly bohemian hotel room, then filling it with sea salt each night and climbing in again just to relax.
  5. Getting to the top of the endless flight of spiral stairs which led to a lookout tower above the St. Vitus Cathedral, the view just barely worth the exhaustion and chlaustrophobia that accompanied the climb.
  6. Taking a stroll through the Castle gardens, hand-in-hand with my husband, enjoying the most beautiful view of Prague, as bright red leaves fell all around us and the combination of crisp weather and bright sunshine created the perfect air for a long, deep breath of happiness.
  7. Watching my husband’s smile get bigger and bigger, completely entertained across the table as I forced down more mussles than I could fit in my stomach and a shot of the worst tasting substance I’ve ever encountered trying to please our offended waiter at Casanova’s.
  8. Soaking up all possible feelings of relaxation and happiness on our last morning walk through Prague.
  9. Slipping my foot into the most beautiful pair of boots I’ve ever bought at my soon-to-be-sister-in-law’s favorite boutique in Leipzig.
  10. Feeling completely surprised at the soft moistness of elephant skin as I pet Rani the elephant at the Leipzig Zoo.
  11. Soaking up some history with my favorite compulsive-history-lesson-giver.
  12. Coming home to the rest of our family members, one of whom was so excited to see us that he choked on his own purr.

Nick posted plenty of photos that can fill in the bulk of the trip that occurred around these small moments, but frankly, these memories alone made the trip worthwhile. :)

You didn’t tell me Dad choked on his own purr when he picked you up from the airport!

Sounds like the vacation of lifetime….One you will reflect on dreamily for years and years and years. I’m so happy it all went so well!

Beautifully done Ames. At least the waiter didn’t make you drink the Czech dinner drink Bekerova (sp?). I would compare it to engine oil and will tell you that it was the worst stuff I ever put in my mouth. Ironically, after having with our dinner meals every day for 23 days, I got kind of used to it. :)
