I was pretty angry when I saw that video. Not that I don’t appreciate McCain’s admitting to not having a good answer — rather, I think we need a president who does have a good answer. (Better yet, we need a president who’s willing to fight for sane health care.)

I actually appreciate hearing a political candidate admit that he does not know enough about a subject to comment on it.

I agree it would be great to have health insurance cover birth control but the problem is the same as it is for most of the things we would like covered. Someone has to pay for it and everytime the goverment mandates coverage for something, the premiums go up.

I remember taking a customer service call once from an elderly woman who wanted to know if birith control pills were covered. I really wondered at the time as to why a woman her age was concerned about birth control pills being covered. When I explained that yes we covered the birth control pills because many women use them for medical purposes, she became very angry because we did not cover hearing aids. So shouldn’t that be mandated also? There is no fair solution for all.

I do know when I was working in the individual insurance market, that the state mandates really drove up costs. So, what is the solution? I frankly don’t know enough about it to say. It’s a pretty complicated issue.

I do agree with you Nick, that we need sane health care. The problem is who’s definition of sane do we use?

Hi Trudy! Have you read Health Care Reform Now? I think you’d enjoy it! And yes, it’s a tricky division as to who should pay for what, but with the money that we spend on health care and social services for unwanted pregnancies, we could certainly cover generic pills.
